Ottanthullal - the satiric solo dance
Ottanthullal or Ottan Thullal is a performing art of Kerala, South India in the genre of classical gance, where a single actor sings, acts and dances. The actor wears colorful costumes, ornaments and a large and colorful headgear as well. It is an art form created by poet Kunchan Nambiar. The face will be heavily made up in a green color, which has some resemblances to the makeup used in Kathakali; a popular art form of Kerala.
The essence and attraction of Ottanthullal is satire because the artiste is given a lot of freedom to improvise and also to incorporate humor.
