Balivadham (the Killing of Bali) Kuttiyattam

Kutiyattam, the classical Sanskrit theatrical art form of Kerala is one of the oldest existing theatres in India itself. Kutiyattam is an art form usually performed indoor and the theatre where it is performed is called Koothambalam. Kutiyattam performance is accompanied by percussions like Mizhav, kurumkuzhal, sankhu and edakka.

In 2001, UNESCO proclaimed Kutiyattam as one of the ‘Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’. This nomination has immensely helped the art form in gaining worldwide recognition.
