Kutiyattam-Part-1
Kutiyattam is one of the oldest classical theatre forms of Kerala which originated around 2000 years ago. Kutiyattam literally means combined acting in which the performer alone portrays all the characters in the story. Recently UNESCO has declared Kutiyatam as among the “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”.
This video presents Kailasodharanam, one of the significant episodes from the epic Ramayana. The play depicts the thoughts of King Ravana, the ruler of Lanka who dreams about the curses after his attempt to lift Mount Kailasa, the abode of Lord Shiva. It is performed by Kalamandalam Sivan Namboodiri.
