Gujarati Community, Kochi
Kochi, being the commercial capital of the State of Kerala in India has always been a fascination for people from far and near. Some of them visited this busy place just for business while others went further and made Kochi their home. The Gujarati community is one of those groups who made this Queen of the Arabian Sea their home.
These settlers landed in Kochi about 225 years ago and have become an integral part of the socio-cultural life of Mattancherry. Though they mingle wholeheartedly with the rest of the populace they have kept and preserved their cultural identity. The Guajarati community in Mattancherry is a fine representation of the cultural harmony that exists in Kerala.
