River Tungabhadra and Hampi in Bellari district
River banks have been cradles of all great civilizations in history. So was the story of Hampi, which was protected by Tungabhadra. The remains of the ancient bridge over the river can be seen even today. There are a number of pavilions, near bathing ghats on the banks of the mighty river. On the other side is Kishkindha, famed in the Hindu epic, Ramayana.
Hampi was once the seat of the powerful Vijayanagara Kingdom and is one of the most magnificent historical sites in India. It is situated on the southern banks of Tungabhadra River at Hospet village in Bellari district, Karnataka state.
