Badami Cave and its surroundings, Karnataka
Badami Caves, carved on top of a hill in Karnataka, there are four major rock cut caves. All the four caves are carved out of Deccan sandstone. The architecture of these caves shows a mixture of North Indian Nagara style and South Indian Nagara. Overlooking the caves is the Agastya Theertha Tank, its banks dotted with a cluster of Bhoothanatha temples.
The temples on these caves are dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Lord Mahavir Swamy. There is an archaeological museum maintained by ASI, which shows many sculptures of the Chalukyan era and were built by the Chalukya Empire around 6th century.
