Agumbe – a verdant, wet village
Agumbe is a beautiful hamlet noted for its scenic locations. It is situated in the Shimoga district of the State of Karnataka, India. Part of the Sahyadri Ranges (Western Ghats), Agumbe is one of the places in India that receives very heavy rainfall. Agumbe is also home to the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS), the only permanent rainforest research station in India.
Sunset Point, Jogigundi waterfalls, Onake Abbi falls and Koodlu Theertha falls are some of the major tourist attractions in Agumbe.
Agumbe is easily accessible from Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), which is about 230 km from Agumbe. Udupi Railway Station on the Konkan railway route is the nearest railway station and Mangalore International Airport is the nearest airport.
