Yakshagana Performance
Yakshagana is the traditional theatre art form of the South Indian State, Karnataka. This musical dance opera hails a history dating back to 400 years of performance tradition. This theatre art form selects any interesting episodes from the Indian epics- Ramayana and Mahabharata and combines it with music and oration.
Another notable feature in this dance opera is it costume. The actors provide an elaborate and complex make-up complete with jewellary and head gear. The most interesting part of Yakshagana performance is the actor’s choreographic movements.
Yakshagana is usually performed in open air at night, in paddy fields and village squares.
