Thikse Gompa or Thikse Monastery, Leh
A Tibetan Buddhist Monastery, Thikse Gompa or Thikse Monastery is located atop a hill, on east of Leh in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir state of India.
This monastery belongs to the Yellow Hat (Gelugpa) sect and it is famed for its similarity to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. A 12-storey complex, the monastery is located at an altitude of 3,600 metres in the Indus valley.
Various pieces of Buddhist art such as stupas, statues, thangkas, wall paintings and swords are the major attractions of this monastery. One can also see two storeys tall Maitreya Buddha statue in the monastery.
