Chulichan, the Buddhist nunnery
Chulichan is a Buddhist nunnery, located en route to Rizdong monastery near Leh in Ladakh District of Jammu and Kashmir. Fully managed by women, this nunnery has inmates as young as seventeen to those in their eighties. Perhaps one of the few Buddhist nunneries in India, the facade of the monastery building with a clay finish has an entrance that leads to several steps winding up and talking one to an open ground at the level of the second floors of the monastery.
The nunnery has a school, a common kitchen and water is available in the form of several streams that run down the slopes of adjoining mountains and flow by the sides of the nunnery.
