Buddha statue in Likir Monastery, Leh, Ladakh
Located about 60 kms west of Leh in the Ladakh District of Jammu and Kashmir is the Leh Monastery. Noted for its outdoor, tall, seated Buddha, the Likir monastery founded in the 11th century A.D. belongs to the Yellow Hat Sect, under the Tsongkhapa order. The monastery complex houses many shrines inside and also has a school. The annual event called Dosmochey is marked by offerings and sacred dances.
