Yakshagana Part 3
Yakshagana is a popular dance drama said to have originated around 400 years ago in Karnataka state of India. Yakshagana literally means the song of ‘yakshas’. Yaksha is the name of certain celestial demigods in Hindu mythology.
The performance comprises of dance, music and spoken words with themes based on tales from Hindu epics like Mahabharatha and Ramayana. Kamsavadham is such a tale which depicts the killing of Kamsa, the uncle of Lord Krishna. In this particular video, you can see the ‘Gopikas’ in Nandagokulam selling curd and milk.
