Theyyam Part 1

Theyyam, a ritualistic dance form which originated in North Kerala has its own tradition and historical significance. It is an integral part of Kerala’s opulent heritage which draws the recognition from around the world. Mostly this temple ritual is performed in northern parts of the state especially in the districts of Kannur and Kasaragod.

This video presents the multifarious forms of Theyyam associated with the temple rituals mostly in Malabar. The costumes used for Theyyam are very impressive and are made of coconut spathes cut and painted in different color patterns. There are more than 400 kinds of Theyyams in northern Kerala.
