Symphony Celestial vol 2 Part 4, Yakshagana
Yakshagana is a popular dance drama said to have originated in Karnataka state of India. Yakshagana literally means the song of ‘yakshas’.Yaksha is the name of certain celestial demigods in Hindu mythology. It is a combination of dance and music.
The performance is like the Kathakali of Kerala and the dance drama is comprised of the stories in the epics. In this video you can see a troupe performing Kamsa Vadham (the killing of Kamsa), a bit in Yakshagana dance drama.
The play portrays the divine nature and bravery of Lord Krishna when he sets out with his elder brother to kill his uncle Kamsa, who is the ruler of Mathura.
