Nangiarkoothu (Kamsa Vadham) - by Margi Sathi, Part I

Nangiarkoothu, an allied art of Kutiyattam is a solo female enactment. This Sanskrit theatrical art form has an antiquity of 1500 years. Nangiarkoothu is the sole domain of female artistes known as Nangiars, the female members of the Chakiyar community.

Nagiarkoothu, ‘Kamsa Vadham’, performance is based on the classic text Sree Krishna Charitham – a depiction of Lord Krishna’s life and deeds. Enacted here is an important episode from the text, Kamsa Vadham (The Killing of Kamsa).
