Odissi is an oldest form of classical dance said to have originated in Orissa state in India. It is a dance form which was performed in the temples years ago. The current form of this dance is a product of 20th century after a series of research works by dance enthusiasts.
Like in other Indian classical dance forms it also contains body movements along with skilled acting. The main theme for Odissi dance has been taken from Hindu mythology.
This video features Mangalacharan (seeking the blessing of Lord Ganesha) to remove the obstacles and this marks the entry of the Odissi dancer onto the stage. It is performed by Sujata Mohapatra, a famous Odissi dancer.
