Balivadham Part 5-Kutiyattam

Kutiyattam is a two millennia old dance form which originated in the state of Kerala. Usually this dance form was performed as temple ritual in specially made theatres called Koothambalams. This video features Balivadham, an eventful chapter in Ramayana performed by renowned Kutiyattam artistes.

Balivadham is a play which depicts the killing of Bali, the king of Kishkinta (the land of monkey men). Bali misconstrues with his sibling Sugriva and as a result Bali forcefully takes Sugriva’s wife as his consort. Sugriva, in grief seeks the help of Lord Rama who kills Bali.
