Kathakali Padam, Vandana Slokam
Kathakali, one of the oldest theatre art forms in India is a popular dance drama said to have originated in Kerala. The performance in this dance form is a combination of dance and music and is based on the epics from Hindu mythology. Usually the singers stand towards the back of the stage and sing while the costumed dancers mime out the story centrestage.
The padam or song in Kathakali is sung on the basis of the story of the particular performance, in a rhythmic way by renowned maestros. In this video you can see Vandana Slokam rendered by the well-known Kathakali artistes.
