Shashur Monastery, Lahaul and Spiti
A Buddhist monastery of the Drugpa sect, the Shashur Monastery (Sashur Monastery) in Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh state, northern India, is located 37 kilometres from Manali. Sha-shur literally means "in the blue pines" and you will come across patches of blue pine around the monastery.
Built in the 17th century by Lama Deva Gyatsho of Zanskar, the Shashur monastery houses huge Thangka paintings and wall paintings depicting all the 84 siddhas of Buddhism. Shashur Monastery is associated with the Red Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism or the Gelukpa order.
