Historic Village of Dholavira
Here is the village of Dholavira as it is now. Why is it so important? It was here that a great civilization flourished centuries ago - the Indus Valley Civilization. Remote and thinly populated, the village of Dholavira is located in the desert land of Kutch in the State of Gujarat.
Dholavira is also an archeological site in Bachau Taluk in Kutch district and is one of the largest of the five Harappan sites. One of the world’s early urban civilizations, the Indus Valley Civilization flourished in the Indian subcontinent from 3300–1300 BCE. It occupied some 1,260,000 sq km and was the largest known ancient civilization.
