Dholavira: runis of Harappan culture
Dholavira, one of the archaeological sites noted for the ruins of Harappan culture,is located in the Kutch district (Kachchh) of the State of Gujarat in India. It belongs to the Indus Valley Civilization and is located exactly on the Khadir bet island in the Kutch Desert Wildlife Sanctuary.
Flanked by two storm water channels – the Mansar in the north and the Manhar in the south, Dholavira was an important centre of trade between south Gujarat and Western Asia.
The excavation was initiated in 1989 by the Archaeological Survey of India and it lead to the unearthing of large numbers of antiques such as gold, silver, terracotta ornaments seals, beads, animal bones and various vessels.
