Somnath Temple to regain its lost glory
The Somnath temple in Gujarat state in India had been the target of invaders for centuries. Almost all the gold decorations of the temple had been carried away by invaders in the past. But now the temple is set to regain all its old glory. As a first step towards becoming a ‘golden temple’ again, the Temple Trust is carving and gold plating the Sabha Mandap or hall were devotees gather for praying. The project is to be completed by 2010. The outer structure of the temple is also getting a coating of fungus resistant paint. The paint will also allow the porous Bella stones which are used for the construction, to breathe.
