Kambara Nritham – an agrarian ritual dance from Wayanad
This video is about Kambra Nritham – an agrarian ritual dance from the hill district of Wayanad in Kerala. It is performed by the Adiyaar tribal community in Wayanad. The members of this tribal community have great respect for their agricultural practices and they express it in varied ways. And Kambra Nritham is one way of expressing it.
This dance has men singing and dancing around the paddy field, while their womenfolk plant new saplings. Simple steps, circular movements to the accompaniment of folk songs and music played from wind instruments and percussions add charm to this dance.
