Sri Shanta Durga Temple in Goa
Sri Shanta Durga temple, a huge temple complex, is situated in Ponda, Goa state of India. The temple is dedicated to Shanta Durga, the Goddess who mediates between Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The architectural style of the temple is very attractive.
The legend is that once Vishnu and Shiva had a fierce fight between them and Lord Brahma prayed to Goddess Parvathi in order to stop the clash. Parvathi, in the form of Shantadurga placed Vishnu on her right hand and Shiva on her left hand and then settled the fight.
Shanta Durga, the deity in this temple is seen holding two serpents which in turn represent Vishnu and Shiva. It is a popular pilgrim centre in Goa and is frequented by devotees throughout the year.
