Safa Masjid, Ponda, Goa
Shown in this video is Safa Masjid, a noted Islamic shrine in Ponda, a popular Hindu pilgrimage centre in the state of Goa, India. It is situated a few kilometers away from Panaji, the capital of Goa.
Erected in 1560 by Ibrahim Adil Shah, the Sultan (ruler) of Bijapur, this is a popular centre of worship in the state. The mosque survived the chaos created by the Portuguese during their time.
The mosque is also known as Shahouri masjid and it portrays exquisite collection of Islamic arches and well decorated walls. One can find a huge water tank in the mosque premises, which is one of the prime attractions here.
The two prominent festivals of Muslims, the Id-Ul-Fitr and Id-Ul-Zuha are celebrated in this mosque with great devotion.
