Bom Jesus Basilica at Goa
Consecrated in 1605, the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa, the smallest state in India is the finest example of baroque architecture in the country. 'Bom' literally means 'good' or 'holy' Jesus and hence the church obtained its name.
Basilica of Bom Jesus, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is often visited by a large number of devotees from around the world. The exact location of this church is in old Goa, which was the capital during the Portuguese rule.
This church contains the body of St. Francis Xavier; who founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) along with Ignatius Loyola, his close associate.
