Archaeological Survey of India Museum in Goa
Set up in 1964 under the guidance of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the Archaeological Museum in Goa displays sketches and sculptures of the prehistoric to the late mediaeval period. There are eight galleries in this museum, which also houses various artifacts belonging to the Portuguese period in Goa.
The statue of Portuguese visionary Alfonso de Albuquerque and the portrait of Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer who arrived in India in 1498 are the major attractions of this museum. Several antiques from Hindu period, sculptures of Hindu deities along with a striking collection of Portuguese arms like rifles, swords and daggers are also on display in this museum.
