Shawl making in Dilli Haat
Colourful hand woven shawls from Arunachal Pradesh steal the show at Dilli Haat, which is a permanent bazaar for selling Indian ethnic crafts. It is situated on Safdarjung Road in New Delhi.
The equipment used for weaving these handlooms is a simple needleless loom and the actual weaving is done with the help of a bamboo tube. They use cotton and wool for making shawls and colouring is done with the help of natural dyes.
The designs are basically of geometrical type varying from a formal arrangement of lines and bands to elaborate patterns of diamonds and tabs.
