Rajghat, Gandhi Samadhi, New Delhi
Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation is situated in New Delhi, India. He was assassinated by a religious fanatic on 30th January 1948. This memorial ground is a simple open platform with a black marble slab with the wordings "Hey Ram" on it.
It is set in a garden with fountains and a variety of beautiful trees. Located on the west bank of river Yamuna, this memorial is 4 km away from Janpath on the way to Delhi gate by the Ring Road.
There is also a Gandhi Memorial Museum nearby, throwing light into the life and philosophy of this great freedom fighter. In memory of his death Indians observe Martyr's day on 30th January. Gandiji’s Samadhi has become a place of pilgrimage.
