Raj Ghat, final resting place of Mahatma Gandhi
It is the place where Mahatma Gandhi, the leading light of Indian Independent struggle which upheld the principles of peace, love and non-violence is laid to rest.
It is a raised square platform of black marble with the words “Hey Ram” engraved on it.
The Samadhi (the cremation ground) of Gandhiji, the father of the nation has become a place of pilgrimage. Every year the day on which this freedom fighter was assassinated is observed as Martyr’s day (30th January) by Indians. On this day, prayers and offerings are held at the Samadhi.
The Samadhi of Gandhiji is located towards the eastern part of New Delhi on the west bank of river Yamuna close to Delhi gate.
