Indira Gandhi Museum - I
Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum is located at 1 Safdarjung Road, near Safdarjung’s Tomb en route to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
It is situated in a white bungalow and was once the residence of the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It was here in the gardens of this bungalow that her two bodyguards assassinated her on October 31st 1984. The bungalow was later converted into a memorial museum.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum preserves her personal belongings including photographs from the life of Nehru-Gandhi family and the personal exhibits of her son Rajiv Gandhi. One can also see the sari which she was wearing when she was assassinated.
The museum is very popular among the tourists especially the domestic visitors who in a way pay tribute to the leaders who sacrificed their life for their country. Here one can find the visitors watching the newspaper cuttings and photographs of Indira Gandhi displayed in the museum. One can also see the clothes Indira Gandhi was wearing on the day of her assassination.
