Amar Jawan Jyoti, New Delhi
Amar Jawan Jyoti (The flame of immortal warrior), a cenotaph dedicated to the unknown soldier, is situated beneath the arch of India Gate in New Delhi, India since 1971. Also known as the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, this is a black marble cenotaph with an assault rifle placed on its barrel, crowned by a soldier’s helmet.
The eternal flame was lit in 1971 and is still alight. You can see the words Amar Jawan (immortal warrior) in each face of the memorial written in gold.
Today on special occasions like Republic Day and other state ceremonies the Prime Minister, the President and chief guests visiting New Delhi pay their tribute at this spot.
