Presented here is a Kathak performance by Pali Chandra on Khandita Nayika in the composition Na maanoongi… Khandita Nayika means one who enraged with her lover due to betrayal. In the composition Na maanoogi… the dancer interprets the heroine’s conflicting emotions and anger which eventually melts away when her lover appears.

In Natyasastra, the ancient treatise on classical dances, Sage Bharata pointed out that there are ten stages of love and are depicted by a dancer while portraying the nayika or heroine in a composition or story. Khandita Nayika is one of the principal eight nayikas enumerated by Sage Bharata in Natayasastra for Indian classical dance.
