Wooden crafts from Chattisgarh
Chattisgarh, one of the youngest states of the Indian republic, is known for its wooden artifacts. It is the tribal people, who constitute the majority of the population, who are actively engaged in the wood crafting. They decorate their homes and places of worship with upright pots, door panels, ceiling frames etc.
Beautifully decorated wood works of Chattisgarh include the iconographed figures of birds, various animals, weapons, human figures and gods. Muria Tribal people of Bastar have particular specialization in elaborate ornamentation of various items.
