Wooden Carvings from West Bengal
Surajkund Crafts Mela is a grand fair which exhibits rare and rich handicraft and handloom tradition of India. This crafts fair is held annually at Surajkund, just beyond the Delhi-Haryana border.
Wood carving is a major indigenous craft of India. Varieties of folk forms have been developed in woodwork all over India. Toys for children, utility goods, and religious objects and temple architecture are the main ones.
West Bengal’s wood work includes painted wood carvings and plain wood carvings. Wood is widely used for making toys and decorative panels.
