Tanjore paintings from the land of Tamil
The traditional ornate paintings of Tamil Nadu are called Tanjore paintings. These paintings are unique for their ornamentation in the form of semi-precious stones, pearls, glass pieces and gold.
The early paintings were embedded with real diamonds and other precious stones. But nowadays pure gold foils and semi precious stones are used to adorn the paintings. The theme of these paintings is mostly of Gods and Goddesses.
These elegant paintings are exhibited at the Surajkund Crafts Fair in the state of Haryana which celebrates the handloom and handicraft tradition of India.
