Paintings from Rajasthan
Rajasthan has a glorious, vibrant tradition of paintings. The Miniature tradition, which traces back to the 11th century, is the most remarkable of them. Themes from the epics and legends are adapted into these paintings. They are very much expressive and have gone through Mughal influences in later years.
Rajasthan has also the tradition of paintings drawn on paper or cloth scrolls. These are mainly narrative in treatment and depict themes from folk as well as legendary stories. The state has also a tradition of folk paintings, found in villages and rural areas. It is practiced by various tribes and is very original, fresh and handmade.
Shown in the video clips are some of the finest Rajasthani paintings, exhibited at Surajkund Crafts Mela, a fair organized by Haryana Tourism to promote the Indian tradition of handloom and handicraft.
