Mithila folk art from Nepal
Shown in the video are the Mithila folk art pieces from Nepal in the Surajkund Crafts Mela, the annual crafts fair held in Haryana, India. Mithila is an ancient land in Nepal with rich and renowned artistic tradition. Religious themes are the source of inspiration behind the emergence of Mithila art.
The Maithil women weave different baskets of bamboo and green grass and paint them beautifully and artistically. The best example of Mithila folk art is these Dhakis (baskets). In Nepal, every house is decorated with these baskets.
Mithila paintings were originally the tributes to the deities. But in recent times these paintings depict daily life, images of fauna and abstract design patterns.
