Performance of Mech from West Bengal
Mech is a form of tribal dance in West Bengal, performed by Mongoloid tribal communities of Cooch Behar district. They are the inhabitants of the hilly regions of Cooch Behar.
Mech is part of the socio-cultural life of these tribals, who celebrate occasions like marriage, birth and hunting in a colourful manner, with the accompaniment of dance and music.
The dance is performed in the Surajkund Crafts Mela, Haryana. The fair also celebrates the rhythm of Indian folk dance and music. The open air theatre called Natyashala is the venue for these performances.
