Jute products from West Bengal
India is the largest raw jute producing country in the world and West Bengal is a major centre of jute production. Jute, the cheapest natural fibre, is used for making bags, textiles and other decorative items. Curtains, chair coverings and rugs are also made of jute.
The most attractive and popular of jute items are the shopping bags, with handles, straps, chains in different shapes and dimensions. They are bleached and decorated with different artistic styles.
These attractive jute products are being exhibited at Surajkund Crafts Mela, an annual fair conducted by Haryana Tourism to promote the handloom and handicraft tradition of India.
