Handloom silks from Banaras, Uttar Pradesh

Banaras in Uttar Pradesh is known for its beautiful handloom silk sarees. The Banaras silk brocades represent the finest of India's fabled weaving traditions.

A Banaras silk saree or shawl is traditionally a single coloured textile with motifs and patterns woven in gold and silver threads. This technique is intricate and the procedure is complex.

These handloom silks are exhibited in the Surajkund Crafts Fair, Haryana. This is an annually held carnival which offers a view of wide variety of richness of Indian art and handicraft tradition.
