The dainty carpets from Delhi
India’s handmade carpets have literally crossed the seas and have reached the admirers all around the world. This unique piece of fine craftsmanship is done as a rural and domestic handicraft. An interesting fact regarding Indian carpets is that they are mostly exported and are hardly used domestically.
The Indian carpets mainly consist of Iranian designs, thanks to the Iranian weavers who introduced this art in the country. Even then, Chinese, Moroccan, French and Turkmen patterns are also used, which are drawn by skilled local designers and woven by weavers. Recently, Indian motifs have also been used in the weaving.
Presented in the video are the colorful carpets from New Delhi, displayed at Surajkund Crafts Fair. It is an annual event conducted by Haryana Tourism to promote Indian handloom and handicraft.
