Upkar - 1967

Directed and starred by Manoj Kumar, the 1967 film Upkar, gave Manoj Kumar the image of Mr. Bharat. The film produced by Harkishen R. Mirchandani became a major success of that year. With the help of a rustic background endowed with all its bucolic charms Manoj emphasizes the ideologies and ideals that independent India should rely upon.

Along with Manoj Asha Parekh, Prem Chopra and Pran made their presence onscreen. Interestingly Pran played a positive character in the film which was a rare instance in his career. Music for the film was composed by Kalyanji Anandji. The film was also noted for the song "Mere Desh Ki Dharti" sung by Mahendra Kapoor.
