Teesri Kasam -1966
Teesri Kasam – one of the rare instances in Indian film in which the ethos of rustic India was explored with a poetic brilliance. Released in the year 1966 the film was based on a short story, 'Mare Gaye Gulfam' written by the renowned Hindi novelist Phanishwarnath Renu (he himself has done the screenplay for this film).
Teesri Kasam was directed by Basu Bhattacharya who earlier assisted Bimal Roy in films like Madhumati and Sujata. Though the film starred the leading actors of the time like Raj Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman in lead roles it failed in the box office pathetically leading to the death of its producer/lyricist Shailendra due to the stress of financial problems. Music for the film was composed by the composer duo Shankar-Jaikishan.
