Rattan 1944
Rattan released in the year 1944 is most known in the industry as the film that proved the talent of music director Naushad, who popularized the use of classical music in film. Bollywood film music till then was more focused on melody rather than on rhythm. But Naushad with the use of folk instruments like dolak gave it a new sense of rhythm.
Akhiyaan milaake jiya bharmaake chale nahin jaana; Jab tumhi chale pardes lagaakar thes; and O jaanewaale baalamwa lautke aa lautke aa are some of the inspiring songs from the film.
Directed by M. Sadiq the film was a Gemini Pictures production and was written by R.S. Choudhury and D.N. Madhok. The film stars Swaran Lata, Karan Dewan and Amir Banu in lead roles and also helped singers like Amirbai Karnataki and Zohrabai Ambalawali to the reach the top of film music world.
