Navrang - 1959

After the huge success of socially relevant films like Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje and Do Aankhen Barah Haat, the 1959 released Navrang, directed by V. Shantaram is a feast of colours.

Set in the 18th Century feudal background, the film tells the story of a folk poet, Diwakar (played by Mahipal), his wife Jamuna, and a muse aptly named Mohini (played by Sandhya in a double role) at a time when the British were beginning to capture small kingdoms.

Music composed by C. Ramachandra became super hit. “Shyamal Shyamal Baran”, “Tu Chhupi Hai Kahan”, “Are Ja Re Hat Natkhat" and “Tum Mere Main Teri” are some of the songs from the film.
