Nagina -1951
Nagina released in the year 1951 was the first Indian film to get an Adults Only certificate by the censor board of India. It was produced by Pancholi Pictures. The film is a mystery-suspense-thriller which relies on the myth and legends of the country. The quest for nagmani, dungeons, murder, everything adds to the eerie mood of the narrative. The film also shows the skilful use of sound effects to create the horror.
Directed by Ravindra Dave the film stars Nutan and Nazir in lead roles. Since Nutan was only 14 then she was not allowed to watch the movie in theaters. Music composed by Shankar Jaikishen was also fascinating. The famous C. H. Athma number “roo me sagar ke kinare” is from this film.
