Mr. & Mrs. 55 - 1955
This 1955 hit, directed by Guru Dutt, narrates the story of a naïve heiress nurtured by her feminist aunt, and an unemployed cartoonist. Her scheming aunt forces her into a marriage of convenience but circumstances teach her the real value of an Indian wife. Guru Dutt played the role of the cartoonist opposite Madhubala who breathed life into the character of the young heiress. Lalita Pawar rendered a praiseworthy performance in the role of the aunt.
Guru Dutt’s craftsmanship is at its best in this socially critical romantic comedy. Johnny Walker, Tun Tun and Jagdeep played some minor roles in Mr. & Mrs. 55. Music for the film was composed by O. P. Nayyar and lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
