Kabuliwala - 1961

Kabuliwala, released in 1961, is the cinematic adaptation of Rabintranath Tagore’s short story of the same title. Directed by Hemen Gupta, Salil Choudhury composed the music for the film. Perfectly tuned to the theme, well-known songs from the film are “Ganga aaye kahan se,” “Ho saba kehna mere dildaar ko” and “Aye mere pyaare wattan, aye mere bichhde chaman.”

The story of the film is a stranger from Afghanistan comes to India to make enough money to save his farm leaving his little daughter behind. Balraj Sahni as Kabuliwala the film also stars Usha Kiran, Sajjan, Sonu and Baby Farida.
