Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai -1960

Released in 1960, the film Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai comes with the theme of rehabilitation of dacoits of central India. Directed by Radhu Karmakar and produced by Raj Kapoor, the film stars Kapoor, Padmini and Pran in lead roles.

Though several films have come in Indian cinema dealing with the theme of dacoits this was the first venture that discusses the real problems and issues that springs from this social evil. It was the directorial debut of Radhu Karmakar, who had earlier handled the cinematography department in Raj Kapoor films.

The songs composed by Shankar Jaikishan and penned by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri became super hits. Some of the classic songs from this film include "Aa Ab Laut Chalen," "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai"and "O Basanti, Pawan Pagal."
